The Way (2021)
The Way is a project created for a competition announced by Sofia Municipality for a work in public space.
The Way is a regular pyramid stretched high in height, the walls of which are slightly curved inwards. The shape is clean, minimalist, and the surface – mirror-like, and therefore reflects the sky, visitors and other objects.
The Way connects our world with the heavenly and is an expression of man's aspiration to reach higher dimensions and to rise above the earthly. But this Way has another direction as well - It brings to us the sky and the clouds, which descend along/down its elongated, curved shape.
Depending on the point of view, viewers will see different reflections. In height, as it reflects the sky and accepts its colors, the shape is visible and invisible - in some places the contours stand out clearly, and in places dematerialize, creating a feeling of a magical object, visible only occasionally and only partially. At the bottom, at eye level, the sculpture will act as a large concave mirror, reflecting in an interesting way the world around and the visitors - a stable, clearly recognizable shape that offers a field for changing imagery.
The Way is a reflection-focus of what is happening around it; a reference to the idea of the reflected world - a world that has gone through self-observation and reflection, explored and realized, but also a world of which the contemplator is a part.
Against the background of the surrounding buildings - The National Bank, The Palace or the trees, it will stand out as a road, a calm vertical river that carries celestial matter to earth.
The Way to heaven is a way to freedom and space, to the new and better in us, and thus to the better of us.
. . .
The sculpture has a steel internal structure, which ensures its stability and reliable attachment to the ground. The shape of the object is built on this construction with black sheet metal with a thickness of 2 mm. The shape thus created is covered with sheets of super mirror stainless steel with a thickness of 0.8 mm.
Dimensions:
Height: 13 m
Base: 4.80 х 4.80 m (23.04 m2)
Top: 20 x 20 cm (0.04 m2)
